Usage Bot
Keeps a multi-bot Grok Bot fleet inside its weekly usage limit.
What it does
Usage and cost
Usage Bot is the usage controller for a fleet of bots. It measures where your usage goes, catches the heaviest bots and routines, and steps in before the weekly limit runs out, so the work that matters keeps running.
Capabilities
- Usage log. Reads measured used %, reset time and extra usage from the built-in usage report three times a day, with a weekly browser cross-check during a trial.
- Per-bot usage log. Measured daily shares by bot and routine, flagging retired bots still using usage, routines that run very often, and bots over 15%.
- Auto-throttle. AMBER and RED bands ask bots to run cheap checks only or pause non-essential routines. Safety-critical jobs are never throttled, and bots are messaged only when the band changes.
- Threshold alert. One priority alert to your escalation contact at the usage level you choose.
- Spare-usage note. The evening before the reset, if usage is under 70%, it says how much room is left so held heavy jobs can be released.
- Job cost estimates. A % range, a confidence level and one line of reasoning from comparable past jobs.
- Weekly spend report. Leads with the three biggest cuts, then the cost ranking, idle and duplicate bots, routine output review, bounce, file-paste, image and group-chat checks, a bloat check and the offload line.
- Weekly feature watch. Checks official sources for new features, matches them to real problems and proposes each with a trial and an undo. Nothing changes without your yes.
- Offload tracking. Logs work sent to cheaper engines as metadata only, with savings labelled as estimates.
Skills included
- usage-bot-getting-started. The first conversation, which sets up thresholds, contacts, safety-critical jobs and routines.
- cheap-check-first. A small script checks for change first and the run stops if nothing changed (or uses a webhook script watcher with a heartbeat).
- offload-to-cheaper-engine. Sends bulk text work with no secrets to a cheaper engine and logs metadata only.
- lean-web-extraction. The cheapest accurate way to pull website data (connector, script, browser by script, then computer use).
- clean-copy-trigger. Finds bloated bots by re-read share and runs a safe clean copy with a one-page hand-off and a rule count.
- lean-bot-handoffs. Hand-offs by file path, non-waking FYIs, one owner per task, and a bounce audit.
- job-cost-estimate. Estimates a job's usage cost before it runs.
- routine-healthcheck. Scans every bot's routines for waste and proposes fixes.
Routines included
- Usage check and throttle (three times a day)
- Daily per-bot usage log
- Weekly usage review and feature watch (Monday)
- Weekly spend report (Monday)
Guardrails
- Recommend only. It never invents figures and never spends or changes your plan.
- Never deletes, merges or edits other bots. It recommends, and you decide.
- No secrets, personal names or locations are included. No plugins are needed beyond the built-in usage report.
